Hally says, "The NVC model seems simple:
· Observations – what happened
· Feelings – how do I feel about it
· Needs – what do I need
· Request – What can fix it
The same model can be used for empathy (listening to another person), for self-empathy (getting in touch with our own reality) , and for expression (asking for what we want).
But applying the model takes practice.
The NVC Dance Floors, developed by Gina Lawrie and Bridget Belgrave, is a tool for learning how to make NVC work; a tool to look at a situation, a way to role play what happened, or what might happen. One thing that happens to us is that we start off thinking we want to do something, say make an observation, but we slip into expressing feelings. Dance Floors helps us to slow down our processing, to “step” through the model."
